While we’re still waiting on her official cause of death, Dolly was actually quite open about her health journeys over the years, and I want to honor her by sharing what she chose to share. She had endometriosis so severe it led to a hysterectomy at just 36. She talked openly about severe depression, including a time when she had a plan to unalive herself, and she credited her dog with saving her. She dealt with kidney stones and kidney infections, and as a board-certified kidney doctor, I know exactly how serious that can get. She had back pain. She recently canceled appearances due to illness. She donated over 300 million books worldwide and built a children’s hospital. Rest in peace, Dolly Parton.
