5 Things I Learned From 25,000 Patients

After caring for roughly 25,000 patients over more than two decades, you start to notice patterns. The same health struggles show up again and again, and so do the things that actually help people get healthier.

In this video, I’m sharing 5 of the biggest lessons my patients have taught me about health, nutrition, weight loss, and metabolic health.

We’ll talk about why chronic disease often develops long before the diagnosis, why hunger eventually beats willpower, why patients are more likely to follow dietary advice that actually makes sense, and why the number on the scale may be one of the least interesting measurements of your health.

I’ll also explain why I believe simple nutrition plans built around nutrient-dense real food are often easier to sustain than complicated diets involving constant calorie counting, food tracking, meal timing, supplements, and willpower.

If you’re dealing with insulin resistance, prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, fatty liver, high blood pressure, unwanted weight gain, or you simply want to improve your metabolic health, I hope these lessons help you think differently about what actually matters.

Your goal shouldn’t just be to weigh less. The goal is to become metabolically healthier.

Jami Dulaney, MD, grew up in Morgantown, WV, and attended medical school there. She completed her internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh, drawn to cardiology by her family history of diabetes and heart disease.
In 2015, she transformed that practice from conventional cardiology into a wellness practice built on diet and movement to reverse lifestyle disease — initially teaching a low-fat, high-carb, plant-based approach.

An endurance athlete since 1999, Dr. Dulaney has completed over 50 marathons, 6 Ironmans, and multiple ultras, including two 100-mile races — most recently the Badger 100 in Wisconsin this August.

Around the same time, she noticed rising HgA1c and insulin resistance in her patients, low DHA levels, and early signs of pre-diabetes in herself. Together, these findings led her to shift her practice to a low-carb, high-fat approach. Today, she’s on a mission to educate others on the risks of plant-based diets and the flawed data behind them.
